Earlier this month Capt. Kai Williams with Awesome Adventure Charters hosted a charity fishing tournament to support guides in Florida who have lost their homes, boats, and other equipment to Hurricane Ian. First of all, I want to say thank you to Kai for making this all happen! It was an awesome event and it went to a great cause. Also thanks to Marsh Wear for sponsoring the afterparty and donating some great prizes. Thanks to all the other people who came together to make this happen as well!
I fished this tournament with Capt. Rob Alexander with Green Heron Adventures. We fished the fly fishing division. It was a catch and release tournament with scoring based on biggest fish in inches.
Rob and I had seen quite a few fish early on, but were having difficulty getting them to eat. Once we found some happy fish moving around more actively, we ended up getting a 27 inch redfish to the boat and released successfully. While this was no absolute monster, we at least felt competitive going in the the awards.
At the end of the tournament, Capt. Rob and I ended up placing in first in the fly fishing division of the tournament. We had a great time out on the water and eating some delicious food at the afterparty! Thanks again to Capt. Kai for putting this together! Great job!
